In the finals, he defeated the competitor from Chile. Hold this L, Bolsonaro. His nickname is "The Giant of Herradura." Here is an article from the newspaper of the Central Committe of Cuba's communist party interviewing Lopez: https://en.granma.cu/deportes/2024-08-06/history-repeats-itself-when-the-great-ones-write-it

"My five medals are not mine, they belong to my people, my parents, my family, my friends, my coaches."

Damn, it almost seems like the best wrestler in the history of the world understands that he did not just fall out of a coconut tree, but rather he exists in the context of all in which he lives and what came before him.

They say that he was killed by wild beasts. The story has it that he came across in the land of Crotona a tree-trunk that was drying up; wedges were inserted to keep the trunk apart. Milo in his pride thrust his hands into the trunk, the wedges slipped, and Milo was held fast by the trunk until the wolves — a beast that roves in vast packs in the land of Crotona — made him their prey.

Sophocles lived longer - he made it to 91 or so. Isocrates lived to be 98.

Loved watching him win. The announcers mentioned his opponent for the finals, Yasmani Acosta Fernandez was apparently his Cuban teammate and then defected to Chile.

Even my dad who's a big wrestling fan, but a chud had to begrudgingly admit Lopez is the GOAT.

We need a Jon Bois style video on Lopez, culminating with his fifth victory over the defector. That would be great propaganda.

Yeah it sounds like Acosta left Cuba for Chile because Lopez was in his weight class. He's been competing for Chile since 2017 but looks like this is his first Olympics. Glad he got beat.
