Hey y'all, I used to have a lemm.ee account, but I've moved here because I can't stand .world anti-communism everywhere anymore.

I see posts in c/drugs and c/badposting that show several comments, but I go in and the comment section is empty. I see communities in the search/local panel with tens of thousands of members but I open them and they're empty. I'm browsing from Voyager on android, if that makes any difference.

If there's a better place to post this, I'd gladly post it there

Edit: thanks to PokrollPosadist ! The problem was indeed the language filter, which for some reason I couldn't change through the Voyager app since I don't find such setting. I logged in using a browser on a desktop PC (didn't test on mobile), and changed the account settings from there to enable all languages (English was disabled in favour of Spanish), and boom, now things are actually there! What a weird feature in my opinion, that most comments will be hidden depending on your nationality or where you login from!!

Oh, check your language settings! IIRC you need to have both English and Undetermined enabled or a lot of comments/posts might not be visible.

Not sure if this is your problem, but worth a shot.

Edit: Also, let me know if you can see this comment lmao.

I can see your message on my inbox as it's answering my post, and reply from there, but if I open the post it doesn't show :(

I'm also not finding any language visibility options anywhere in the app :( :( :(

Edit: going to the browser instead of the app, showed the language options, and English was de-selected by default. I selected it too, and now I can see everything. Thanks a lot mate!

  • I'm interested in the answer as well. So many comments are unteachable in Voyager under a clickable "5 more comments" link that does nothing. If I'm motivated, I share the post to a web browser, where I can see the comments.

I think it's a Voyager bug, but it could just be an interaction glitch between Voyager and my instance.

Voyager on Android seems to be the common factor, though.

Found the answer for myself. Went to the domain of my federation (hexbear.net, for your case it should be yours) in my desktop browser, logged in, went to the settings for my account, and I activated all languages in the list (English was disabled for some reason, presumably because I'm Spanish and so it was marked instead).

Tell me if that works for you!

when you create an account directly on hexbear.net from a browser at least, it's nothing to do with your nationality or location, the default is just "undefined, English" for everyone (hexbear comms won't let you post any other languages afaik).

Voyager may auto detect your system language or something though and try to be helpful, if that's how you signed up, or its also very easy to screw up the language setting on the web UI settings page and not realize it (its a known-bad bit of the UI)

Yours is the 3rd or 4th post I've seen over the past year or so with this exact issue
