    Yeah employers fail perfectly good candidates so they can "prove" they can't get domestic labor to fill their positions. This allows them to sponsor Visas, and international workers can't leave no matter how bad the conditions are. It's really modern day indentured servitude

    Getting a job is just joining a clique. You need the minimum qualifications, but they're not picking the best qualified. And they really can't with just first impressions. They're picking the person they like the most. Another reason why meritocracy is a total fantasy.

      Being a good fit for the existing team is important too though.

      Not saying there isn't a great deal of bullshit out there and certainly not rendering judgement on OP.

      My girlfriend has had the same experience. Final round interviews at multiple places that she was extremely qualified for. She didn't even get a rejection email. Just ghosted. One of these places she was a former employee at and at another she was friends with someone on their board of directors. It's fucking ridiculous

          I know right. The board member even called and put in a good word to the hiring manager. She followed up with the board member after getting ghosted and the board member said they really disliked that hiring manager and she sucks at her job

      I know it's too late for this, and you're angry about the situation... please don't do this. Speaking as the person who's been on the other side of that table, please do not tell them to go fuck themselves. I had a candidate once who was very smart and accomplished, but exhibited signs that he was not a good fit for the team. We told him that we would not be inviting him back for the second round of interviews, and the next day my boss got an anonymous email telling him he was an old, fat prick and a douchebag who didn't appreciate the candidate's brilliance. The whole team breathed a sigh of relief that we dodged that bullet, and it reinforced our view that our instincts were right, the guy was not a good fit for our team. I still have the guy's resume in my desk, and I know if he applied for the position again (we are lucky to have been hiring a lot in the last three years) I would think twice about that candidate, despite his impressive qualifications. "This guy has threatened us in the past" is a perfectly good reason not to hire somebody.

        I didn't literally tell them to fuck off. I explained in a couple professional sentences that their feedback didn't make sense coming from someone with a lot of experience in that role and wished them luck. I guess the catty part was also ending the email by quoting the directions from the test that contradicted their feedback. That was sort of the "fuck you" part but again done as professionally as it can be done

      I think I was pissed because they could have known this just looking at my resume instead of wasting half my fucking day. It's like it wasn't even looked at by someone who mattered until after my test and they said "lol no way"

    On the bright side, at least they told you to fuck off. A lot of employers just ghost you like fucking cowards. Shit fucking sucks. We are nothing but raw material in their eyes. A consumable good that can be placed on the shelf indefinitely and bartered at arbitrage.

    This sort of thing happened to me constantly during the 2008 recession. Interviewing continues, but hiring stops.

      I think that's my problem too. The problem is clearly something with my resume and I wish they would have figured this out sooner instead of wasting my time

        Don't fault yourself, they very clearly BS'ed you, like I'm sure the team I dealt with BS'ed me. Recruiters love making people jump through as many hoops as possible to "prove" their worth. They're just fucking with you. I hope you find something soon, comrade o7
