RE: Episode 164: The Sultana Disaster

Y'all, why take the time to shit on Venezuela's election? Why swallow the white western pill every single time? I thought they were smarter than this.

I feel like every episode they get shittier, and have been for years.

I stomached a lot of Alice and Liam's brain dead takes about AES and the Soviet Union because I enjoyed the show. the final nail for me was the episode right after the Hamas operation where they said Israel should be given the benefit of the doubt for directly bombing a hospital because they probably didn't mean to.

I tried to give the show another chance recently and 1h in Alice started seriously equating China to amerikkka

I can't speak for WTYP because I haven't listened to it since then but on Trashfuture Alice and the rest have acknowledged the genocide, however they do the "Hamas murdered innocent people thing, but Israel is way worse". Maybe they've changed their tune seeing as Israel has destroyed dozens of hospitals since then but the fact that they were willing to follow the "it was a Hamas rocket" narrative at all was sickening to me.

I think that little Nate producer ecosystem of WTYP, TF and others is incredibly sus. I’ve listened to almost all of them and they’re anti-Soviet and anti-AES and almost always regurgitate some state department bullshit

Thankfully TF mostly doesn't mention AES and they stock dunking on techbros and startups. You'll catch a stray from time to time for course, like during the pandemic Milo said China was doing lockdowns because their vaccine doesn't work(?).

          ugh.

when the protests happened they did get giddy about "hamas red triangles" and have spoken highly of the resistance footage of them owning the IDF

this was more recently though so maybe they have changed their opinions. generally they seem to lean heavily into lib-brained opinion and slowly come around long after the rest of modern communists have

admittedly for the first week after the 7th i was unsure whether to support what hamas did (but didn't believe any of the BS about wanton murder/rape) mostly because i didn't know the history enough as well as thought they were just inviting terrible retribution and thought that was reckless. didn't take long to educate myself and fall in with the correct "party line".

i guess the biggest crime for the WTYP crew is that they are probably just too lazy to really learn about what they are talking about (they admit this frequently). twitter + "creator" brain

worst part about WTYP is that they're usually great the other 90% of the time when they aren't being complete fucking libs to the point where I listen to them anyway and then am immediately filled with regret

It's doubly funny because Alice explicitly mentions that somebody asked her NOT TO HAVE TAKES and she still couldn't help herself.

When they joked "this is the last episode" I just thought "oh cool, so we might have a shot at more actual good solo content from Rocz?"

Ideology is determined by material position. The more they get comfortable with the podcast money, the more they have to lose and the more they needa get in line.

to be fair I'm pretty sure all or at least some of them disavowed that guy and said the ep was a mistake. But its possible I'm imagining that and its not like they haven't had lots of bad takes since. Less bad than that tho

Liam actively drags down the whole thing. He constantly interrupts and somehow manages to add no useful information. It's gotten old

It's terrible whenever Liam opens his mouth. Is it going to be a drunk driving joke? Or maybe some braindead anticommunism. Or maybe just interrupting someone. The show would be categorically better if they replaced him with his dad

Also, I saw them live in Philadelphia and it was the worst live show situation I've experienced. The crowd was extremely obnoxious like the entire time. Mercilessly annoying. Technical difficulties and horrible sound.

I'm really sorry it's so maddening to you and others. I still love their content though and I'm grateful they produce content I can listen to at work. I noticed a really big shift happened when the invasion of Ukraine happened and the instances of eardrum destroying Soviet anthems dropped precipitously.

The information vacuum in the English language about the election is very pronounced to my mistrained algorithm at least.

The pod would be far superior as just Rocz and a random guest every time. Hearing Liam's full on reactionary takes while occasionally shedding crocodile tears about the state violence and genocides he unequivocally supports is disgusting, and November's hard pivot to anticommunism after the invasion of Ukraine (as well as her constant complaints about being busy with other podcasts) is just sad, especially because Kill James Bond is such a great pod
