    Most Americans seem to want universal healthcare, so they must be aware that getting bankrupted because you got appendicitis is not good.

    A large number of Americans seem to broadly believe they are living in a sorta meritocracy, where hard work etc. Is rewarded and that poverty is broadly the fault of the individual.

    Somewhere there is an overlap between those two groups where people acknowledge that you can be bankrupted due to a medical emergency through no fault of your own and also that poverty is the fault of the individual.

    I swear to god if all Americans were taught critical thinking a decent chunk of them would probably just sit in a catatonic state drooling for the rest of their natural lives as their entire worldview implodes.
