No, Overwatch is a Team Fortress 2 clone. Games like Smite/DotA/LoL have lanes and minion waves, also items to buff your character as the game progresses.

Apparently not, but I mean you could kind of say this about any game that has had an imitator. MOBAs usually have a large roster, each with a variety of viable builds and team combinations that helps keep it fresh. DotA 2 still has 800k~ players a month and is 11 years old.

Yeah but this shit is so saturated now. There's tons of failed ones, too many to count, but publishers keep trying to push it for some reason

shrug-outta-hecks Probably because if you get a solid player base you can sell dozens of skins to whales at $15-$20 a pop. I fortunately don't have the urge to consoom and maybe buy a couple after I've played something for several years.

You didn't even know what genre it was at first. Sounds like you just want to complain.

When Gabe said "Hope it was worth the wait", he was talking about DEI.

is this game any good? I've never gelled with a moba before and all the others have absurdly toxic playerbases, even by freeze-gamer standards

I've only played a few matches but it's starting to grow on me, I played Paragon for a while and it's fairly similar except the map for Deadlock has a lot more tunnels and ways to come at people outside of the main lanes. There's technically voice enabled but I haven't heard anyone speak yet, I don't believe there's any text chat and that's probably for the best.

There definitely is a text chat, I've seen many streamers use it. It's easy to miss though because it shows up as small text near your avatar with your callouts.

      Same, but I'm enjoying it.

That will probably change when the meta solidifies, but right now everyone is new enough you can do whatever novel strategies and still be effective.

Its the only moba that has actually been palatable to me, ive tried a few over the years but they never took. Deadlock tho got me in a chokehold

What game is the gunplay closest to? I'd imagine it's more of a TF2/OW or a COD/Apex than CS/Valo right

It's closer to OW yeah, everyone can dash/double jump and there are characters with high mobility teleports / floating in the air temporarily.
