Probably didn't want to appear biased. We're a left unity group, which means we try to be welcoming to a lot of different types of socialists and communists and avoid infighting. Something commonly left out is that the donald sub was already inactive at this point, its users already fled to some other shithole in anticipation of being ban. The chapo sub was definitely explicitly targeted for being leftist.
It was the ultimate both-sides. I didn't even realize there was a chapo sub until I learned of it's closure. Def missed out.

Just hover your mouse over them to see their :emojiname: - but use the emoji button in the formatting toolbar to open the picker which allows you to search for keywords like 'trek' or 'picard' (whereas typing : will only show you ones that match exactly what you enter)

When you open the reply box click on the emoji smiley face and scroll down past all the normal emojis. Every hexbear emoji is there towards the bottom.
For clarity - It was a running joke on the old subreddit that the Chapo Trap House podcast hated us, and we hated them and were actually a Citations Needed
fan club. This is half true - Citations Needed is good shit.
Our default "main" comm was shuttered I want to say a year in, in an attempt to get people to post to the many smaller and inactive comms. Instead of that happening, this became the new default comm.
Why not? Nobody actually listens to the podcast so it would be dead here otherwise.
