I think that's to imply the AK is chambered for 7.62×39mm, which does hit harder than 5.56mm NATO.

Not to ‘Ackchyually’ you, but the AKM is also chambered in 7.62. The 74 was the one to bring in the intermediate cartridge.

Apparently there aren't many 47s left. I'm told most of the AKs in circulation are AKMs or 74s, or newer variants.

I loved learning about those guns. They're simultaneously put together by some eldritch instructions, but also invincible.

Also simple and cheap to make. They say logistics win wars, and the war in Ukraine shows that ignoring nukes, peer combat will be quite conventional.

Drones and a fuckload of conventional artillery. Turns out the latter has always been hyper effective against damn near any target if you can spot efficiently.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Most gun folks in this country do not recognize the superiority of gas pistons over direct impingement, but my friends overseas are saying that over the years of fighting in some of the worst conditions that it is really no contest, the gas piston is just better folks!

Outside of certain sects of Fudds I think the general gun nut consensus is that ARs and AKs have both been functionally perfected, and either is fine. Modern ARs can be beat to shit and keep cycling rounds, and modern AKs have much better accuracy than their cheap ancestors did.
