Tesla's Germany factory is going to have a train service that will transport its workers for free, which cool, train good. But a number of the usual suspects (Teslarati and other Tesla/Elon loving media) are claiming that Tesla are launching the train as if it had built the train. In some cases adding its "mind-blowing" capacity (its the same as a regular train).
Here's the kicker: Tesla only slapped its name on a train built by Seimens, using batteries manufactured by Toshiba
using batteries manufactured by Toshiba
Batteries?? It's a train! We have ways to run electric trains. They're like everywhere else in Germany. Wtf
How else are you going to make a perfectly solid design into a fire hazard
Yeah, I thought all rail in Germany was electric, but apparently the line that services this region and that this some is a part of runs on diesel trains. And as if right now their plan is to go with battery powered trains to transition away from diesel.
I think electrifying the line would be cheaper and safer.
The most absurd thing about all of this is they're putting batteries electric trains
He'll get the idea in ten years and then try to claim that the current name is its deadname while simultaneously not respecting trans people
On related note I was reading about electric trains and how are so few in America electric compared to many countries?
Powerful car lobbies
To add to this, the most successful locomotive lineups in American freight and passenger service (SD, GP, F) were manufactured by GM for the longest time before being handed off to another corporation. So naturally it was in their vested interest for trains to run on oil.
Dieselbrains like to peddle the excuse that we couldn't run double stack freight on electric lines but the NEC seems to handle it well.
ShowRead the figure that 38% of rails worldwide are electrified or something. Surely some can double stack?
There are less electric railways in USA than in Uzbekistan.
