I like the part about how the US only imprisons people for actual violent crime.

like you know that guy who skipped the $3 fare is gonna get the full boat on felony attempted murders and agg assault for all the people the cops shot when shooting him.

the people still acting like the US isn't a peerless carceral nightmare are straight up shit-the-bed-and-roll-around-in-it-crazy at this point.

these people really think that every other country lives by america and israel's "take our word for it, we investigated ourselves and found there was no wrong doing" rules. they think iran was allowed to just lie about their nuclear program, not have third parties come in and verify they're not making bombs. they think china can just lie about how many people they have in prison. as if there aren't international third parties that verify these numbers and release them. they think cuba lies about giving people healthcare, completely unaware that the only reason we know cubans have healthcare is because the WHO does a ranking

god i am so sick of liberals. they don't even live in reality. can you imagine that? literally just making shit up like that and then thinking you're saying something true or even representative of reality? absurd

Time outside of America really helped me put into perspective just how sick and run down the country is. Time outside the anglosphere made me realize we've obviously lost the plot.

I absolutely cannot and it's terrifying to be around them sometimes. Other times, just incredibly frustrating. Some guy will be telling you the most banal, ahistorical, flagrantly wrong bs and it's clear from their tone ad the reverance in their voice that they think this is the deep wisdom that they are sharing with you for your benefit and it's like no, no, you fucking dork, that was provably shown to be false 135 years ago and here's all the papers analyzing why anyone believed it in the first place *don't fuck with me i'm a materialist!"

      ...

      ...

I may be experiencing some degree of unrelated rage.

"Das US akshually only imprizzons people fur akshual violence krimez" 🤡

Countries with the largest number of prisoners per 100,000 of the national population, as of January 2024

The United States is home to the largest number of prisoners worldwide. Roughly 1.8 million people were incarcerated in the U.S. at the end of 2023. In China, the estimated prison population totaled to 1.69 million people that year. Other nations had far fewer prisoners.

The largest share of the U.S. prisoners in federal correctional facilities were of African-American origin. As of 2020, there were 345,500 black, non-Hispanic prisoners, compared to 327,300 white, non-hispanic inmates. The U.S. states with the largest number of prisoners in 2022 were Texas, California and Florida.

Over 160,000 prisoners in state facilities were sentenced forremoved or sexual assault, which was the most common cause of imprisonment. Second most common were murder, followed by aggravated or simple assault.

    Wrongful Convictions

Thousands of people have been wrongly convicted across the country in a system defined by official indifference to innocence and error.

3,175+ Exonerations since 1989 in the National Registry of Exonerations.

375 people exonerated through DNA evidence since 1989.

27,200+ years exonerated people spent in prison for crimes they did not commit.

Only 44% of the 95 conviction integrity units in the U.S. have recorded exonerations.

Forgot to multiply by an additional 1.63 to account for the difference in Freedom Index between the US and China.

I know a lot of people live in some mythical fantasy land of how the world works, but this has got to be the stupidest thing I've read (in the last handful of hours; we're still seeing comments about how Lebanon apparently doesn't have civilians or something so there's certainly fierce competition). The American Cinematic Universe is way too ingrained in these people.
