Look at current active posts (5 min if I look at comments), look at news mega (10 min if I haven't looked at it in about 12 hours), sort posts by top 6 hours, see nothing new, sort by top 12 hours, see maybe 1 new post in my slop (2 min), sort by new and look at new posts (2 min), call someone a liberal (30 sec), sort by active again and then repeat
May I suggest: Think of a comment (1 min), reconsider that comment (5 min), realize you can kind of make a joke out of that comment (5 min), notice that in doing so, you now fail to make the point you intended to make (3 min), try to rework it (7 min), convince yourself it wasn't a very good joke/comment anyway (1 min), abandon the whole thing and go to another tab (1 min), GOTO step 1
It really helps pad things out
Have you tried:
Go back through own comment history to see if there are any new comments in the threads you've already commented in (10m)
Browse Subscribed and realise it's just a weird subset of Local plus one or two grad comms (2 mins)
Browse All and realise it's just Local, plus those grad comms, plus some comms in Fr*nch or Italian (3 mins)
See a comment removed by moderator, go to the mod log but can't find the comment (1 min)I'm not going to lie, as long as I'm not involved in it, I like seeing the drama so sometimes I actively browse modlog (also a good way to find bullying sessions against random hogs that wandered in).
Not a lot of juice for the squeeze these days though, it's mostly posts/comments getting removed for procedural rules right now, like link formatting or posting in the dunk or drej or non-dunk non-drej comms or whatever
Question: does sort by 12 hours and the like actually work for anyone else? I try it and it will still give me 3 year old posts
When you reach that point when you should really be going to bed, may I instead suggest a half-hour browsing session of your own posts sorted by top of all time, sifting through them the way a miserly king may scoop up his treasure and let it run through his hands, savoring each coin and jewel as they slip between his fingers one by one
