Back in the 2000s, smug liberalism was all the rage and they wore their smugness like a badge of honor. One thing overlooked in talking about the West Wing, is that it was the show that really pushed the smugness of libs to the forefront and normalized it. Ever since Trump, they try to deny and downplay their smugness, but it's no different from the 2000s when they talked down to people.
Yet they sit there and wonder why people are wanting to yell 'fuck you' back at them.
I don't think I've watched more than five minutes of The West Wing. Was it really that bad? The older I get, the more I realize I may have dodged a bullet.
