Dark Souls is almost a 1-1 analogy for late stage capitalism and the exploitation of the poor by the rich on a dying planet, and the PCs gender and appearance are fully customizable with 0 impact on the story. Hell, one of the gods is non-binary.

And two of the areas in the game are literally toxic wastes full of crap from negligent manufacturing and mining.
The whole state rapidly automated everything because they thought it would look good for propaganda purposes and threw thousands of people of work that they then cracked down on with military hardware.
