Just because NL has the worlds best bike infrastructure does not make them a "good" country. This is the home of Shell, remember. Also they seem far too happy with their colonialist history.

A few years ago r/thenetherlands had a cultural exchange with r/indonesia and the thread in r/indonesia was full of GEKOLONISEERT jokes.

The bike infrastructure has DUTCH people riding it, therefore it can't be good

I rode on it once, ngl, even with all the Dutch people it's fucking amazing to cycle on. Everyone deserves to be able to have a cycling holiday in the Netherlands to see what's been taken from them.

I don't necessarily like jokes about how Dutch is an "unserious language" — I think this is ultimately kind of problematic joke to make, even though the Dutch absolutely do deserve to get made fun of — however I would be lying if I said that I have never in my life looked at or heard Dutch and just gone

English does have a lot of Dutch and French influences. But most European languages come from some ancient indo-european root. Western European languages also have shared influences from Latin, the result of Roman inperialism.

More like centuries. I mean, even the Romans never ended up colonising the entire world. And still roman influence is felt across Europe for millenia after it stopped being a relevant geopolitical player.

As a Dutch speaker, I'm always shocked by how many people on this forum speak Dutch, it's like not that popular of a language... but I agree profoundly unserious please.

I learned Dutch in a post-modern ironic way though, not a utilitarian euro-boo cringe way. Please spare me, I do not claim those folks.

Some of the jokes are getting kinda racist ngl. I'll tell myself that's it's just dutch users making fun of their own language

The 'cuck chair' meme is a textbook example of removed. It shouldn't be common knowledge what a cuck or cuck chair is.

Call us nerds, chudjacks [sic] or whatever else, but it's the truth.

e: forgot that word gets caught by the slur filter (rosa-salute), but it's cognate so it should be clear in Dutch already

Not really. Most of us start learning it in elementary school, so you kind of grow up with it.
