Fizzy water helped me since I mostly drank beer. It gave me stuff to drink several of. Cbd edibles also helped me. Another big thing is putting X's on a physical calender so you dont want to break the chain.

Substitute. Much of it is impulse control. You grab the drink because it's there and once you have it, you gonna drink it. So if you grab something else, that fills the same basic impulse. And then you give your initial urge a chance to subside and overpower it.

Alcohol-free beer is my substitute to significantly lower my alcohol intake. If you feel like you need to quit entirely, you may need something different.

sometimes I'll buy other bubbly or canned drinks, I drink a sleepy time tea at the end of the night, and I take kratom. but what's helped me the most is just breaking the habit of buying alcohol anytime I go to the grocery store or gas station. picking up hobbies or activities that are hard or less fun to do while drunk also helped me. I used to drink all day everyday, and now I try to stay busy and try to learn/read/exercise/whatever

"How did you give up drinking?"

"Well I got really in to skydiving-power-line-repairs and if you're drunk you just don't live very long in that hobby".
