This is all extremely vague and I don't really know what to make of this, other than that I don't think our government should be meddling in Syrian affairs with their money at all. That being said it's worth noting that VVD, CDA and Christenunie are right wing Liberal/Christian parties, so I inherently distrust this entire narrative tbh
All active rebel groups in Syria (that aren't Turkish proxies) have some amount of Salafist influence. It was probably enticing to support a "peace" project within Syria that wasn't aligned with the Syrian government, but that's pretty much impossible. Even the celebrated White Helmets have a history of being a bit too friendly with terror orgs.
