My weirdly heavily conservative roommate (I say "weirdly " because what the fuck is she getting out of it as a working class trans woman) randomly brings up China Bad shit to me at the most unexpected times. Last night she walked out into the living room to grab the bong and started talking about how China is militarily invading Taiwan and slaughtering Taiwanese people, just totally bizarre and demonstrably untrue shit like that. So I said "lol no" and she immediately reeled it back to "Well if you think about it they are, cause the Chinese legal system includes capital punishment" to which I said the obvious thing, "We live in America, our legal system has capital punishment." It kind of just wound down after that, but it's just so weird to be constantly getting into these surprise debates about China, especially with someone who I've never known to have any other political interests at all. That, and the bold emotional claims she makes, only to walk them back immediately because she can't substantiate anything, just screams "indoctrination" to me.
Also it's odd that she almost always waits until my girlfriend, who's family is from Taiwan, is in the room to initiate these struggle sessions. I wonder if it's supposed to be some kind of gotcha.

Trans conservatives will always be a mystery to me
