Before I clicked the article I was wondering whether it was CoCoRaHS Or COOP.
CoCoRaHS is community driven (I think) and COOP is NWS driven but both do the same thing - monitor local weather and contribute their findings to the NWS which helps the NWS to make localized weather predictions, make sense of weather patterns etc. The area of Texas I am is looking for COOP members - they interview you, determine if your location fits their needs, do an on-site inspection, and install equipment used to monitor your weather. You report the findings daily by a set time in the morning. During inclement weather, like hurricanes, you monitor the equipment and report data real time.
I’m in the interview process currently, and think I have good odds of becoming a COOP member.
