Obama would refuse to run even if he was clearly the most likely to win. He'd be like "let me be clear, I'm going to respect the norms even if trump changed them" "our norms are more important than one election, plus I don't wanna leave Hawaii"
Thats why the Dems decide to run the Bush/Al Gore Unity ticket for 2028
Obama would 100% run just to gain the satisfaction of being the first US president to win 3 terms for the first time in decades
He does have a big ego and I'd enjoy seeing it crushed by Trump just barely beating him.
Or he'd run with Harris as VP, get sworn in, and immediately resign.
He could go for beating Roosevelt's record by getting elected a fourth time and not dying three months in.
We’ll see if Trump even removes it. I’m not sure if he wants anymore than two terms.
Yea I have the feeling that he'll use this term to make sure he won't be going to jail when he's out of office, I just don't see him as really wanting to run. Pretty sure he said as much during his campaign (like everything he says take that with a grain of salt)
that or he'll die
I think there's a real chance he'll pardon himself and bounce within a week. Even the fake president-for-uninterested-oldsters level of engagement is clearly too much for him at this point.
He can't remove it anyway. That would need 2/3 of Congress.
Maybe he could simply ignore the term limit and have the Supreme Court rule in his favor (maybe making up some bullshit related to non-consecutive terms despite the 22nd being clear enough that that shouldn't work), but yeah I doubt he'd even want it.
