Hi friends, I’m a sex worker and a leftist. I’m brand new to this community. Sex workers are really taking it from all sides right now (no pun intended!) and due to Melon Husk’s hateful algorithm, there’s yet another viral “leftist” take that is essentially “prostitution bad” from some walnut who has never sold hole in her life. Meanwhile I, an actual prostitute, can barely get 200 views on my damn posts about my own goddamn experience. I would love to post it and scream into the internet abyss but I’m not sure if there is an appropriate place to do that now due to recent changes to the site. Is there a community here where this content is acceptable? I don’t really want to drag/dunk on the person who posted it in particular as there is a different random jackass posting the same take pretty much every day.

hell of a time to join the site lmao, welcome kirby-wave

if it's not a dunk and more about posting your experience, you should be fine in the main community as long as there's a NSFW tag and any needed content warnings, usually formatted like "Post Title [CW: warning, other warning]"

c/chapotraphouse is the main and generic community

we also have a c/main community but it's kinda an inside joke about people complaining about the main community not being named main

if you do end up dunking currently the communities for that are c/gossip for famous people dunking, and c/counterpropaganda for not famous people dunking, the sidebar rule about having to refute the post in counterpropaganda is currently being waivered as the mods work out the new "heckle at bad fuckin takes" comm

Thank you this is helpful. Is there a list of common content warning labels used here? Do people block/ban certain CW keywords so they don’t see those posts, or do they just look at the post title and not click the post if they don’t want to see that type of content?

The latter. As long you tag your stuff appropriately I don’t think you’ll see a problem.

For comments you can use the spoiler function.

It’s the exclamation mark button in the little bar above where you type your comment

Speaking of formatting, if you see a comment with interesting formatting and want to know how they did it, you can click the "view source" button at the bottom of the comment

        i don't think there's a list, ones i've seen:

        content warnings

any sort of bigotry, sexism, racism, ableism, queerphobia or any other -phobia, slurs, SA or sexual violence, abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, death, suicide/suicidal ideation, self-harm, mental health, animal cruelty, and meat usually if it's in the post's picture, i've seen a cw: disturbing too

i think it's more the latter where people don't click/expand the post if they don't want to see the content

There's a longstanding tradition on this site to have a new "general megathread" every few days which is basically all about screaming into the void. Sometimes crying into the void, cheering into the void, laughing into the void too. The current one is here. If you scroll through it you can get a good feel for the types of comments people make. It's probably the best way to get up to speed on the site's culture. If you don't see the general megathread on your front page, you can click "Local" in the "Subscribed / Local / All" boxes at the top of the home page and see it show up in the post list.

There's also a news megathread roughly weekly, intended for more serious discussions of current events. The current one is here. It's another good place to get used to the site culture.

One thing I love about this site is the incredible range of personal experiences and niche knowledge of the users. It's definitely not a monoculture. I think that's a sign of a healthy userbase.

You can always post on main. The in-joke for that comm is that you somehow gotta fit the word "main" into the title. And if you comment there you also gotta somehow fit the word "main" in there as well. Of course that rule is technically on pause but some folks like to be good sports and do it anyways.

Also c/main is the true main and generic community!

The antipope known as c/chapotraphouse has been attempting to hoodwink the world on its legitimacy as the true main, but the old guard of cha-cha know the truth!

I highly encourage cat photos as submitted materials as a personal choice but the main rules say as long as it got main in it and doesn't break the ToC it's free game.

Problem is the main rule is currently on pause so just don't be a dork and have fun posting on main!

          Also bring cat pics

You want to post people with shitty attitudes towards sex workers? The new counterpropaganda comm for now while the situation with the dunk comms gets worked out. Just include an explanation of why their views are wrong per the comm rules

If you just want to vent/talk about your experiences: chat, the general megathread, maybe womenby depending on the subject, trans megathread if you're trans

Sex workers are workers around these parts
