An ill-advised trade war with China left the American empire in crisis. Desperate for more resources to fuel the growth of the Capitalist machine, the country returned to its roots, instigating a series of brutal expansionist wars in South America.

Now, with the region harshly depopulated, the country needs a new labor force to resume resource extraction. To encourage migration to the new US colonies, the government has revived the Homestead Act. Anyone who stakes a claim and defends it from the remaining resistance movements for five years is granted ownership of that land.

Go south! Ensure prosperity for you and your country. Settle for Biden!

Probably not, but I needed to pick a date that was far enough out to fit a trade war, xenocidal war, and beginning of settler-colonial expansion.
