    no they're cool

EDIT: I actually watched the video and I haven't changed my mind I was right.

First of all, you cannot make me give a fuck about Star Trek Online canon.

These Gorn are interesting and not actually that similar to Xenomorphs in behavior. Xenomorphs are engineered weapons with no society or technology. The SNW Gorn are a whole ass space empire with equivtech ships they built themselves.

They're not Xenomorphs, they're Formics or Pequeninos, aliens whose very lifecycle puts them at odds with humanity but who can ultimately be understood

one of the first non-humanoid races in Star Trek

You know your alien design standards are low when you consider humanoids to be non-humanoid lol. I think Species 8472 is the first major non-humanoid species introduced.

When you have such a long-running franchise, it's OK to experiment with new designs. You don't need to make up an in-universe reason. That's dumb. If the new design is better, just use that and continue on like nothing happened. If it's worse, go back or try something else. Pretty simple... You don't need to fetishize The Canon.

Star Trek is camp, though - even compared to Star Wars. When 99% of the aliens are just humans with a prosthetic, more alien aliens can ruin the vibe.

I don't have any thoughts about how the Gorn are characterized.

Who's making the super-cut of the xenomorph and SNW Gorn scenes side-by-side? There's gotta be some youtuber that does this kinda stuff.

I think it's pretty cool that SNW is nodding to Alien(s) while making the Gorn pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.

I love the new Gorn, personally, and I think the nods to the Aliens franchise only make the whole thing more fun. The Gorn are sparsely mentioned in the canon, I think it was a great choice to redesign them and make them into a big bad for the show. The way they've done it introduces a little grittiness without having to tarnish the ideals of Starfleet or the Federation. The crew can be Starfleet while still having a very hostile enemy that requires a serious response. It's good television and it's good Star Trek.
