I love the new Gorn, personally, and I think the nods to the Aliens franchise only make the whole thing more fun. The Gorn are sparsely mentioned in the canon, I think it was a great choice to redesign them and make them into a big bad for the show. The way they've done it introduces a little grittiness without having to tarnish the ideals of Starfleet or the Federation. The crew can be Starfleet while still having a very hostile enemy that requires a serious response. It's good television and it's good Star Trek.
