I haven’t seen this new thing, but this was one of my favorite animated movies when I was in college and I just don’t understand why we need to keep doing these live action things for everything. I guess I am not the target audience anymore but is it all really necessary? Everything is remakes and remakes and live action this and live action that and it’s all just sloppy.

      is it all really necessary?

I heard they're opening a themepark and this movie exists almost exclusively to rebuild the hype for the IP in preparation for that opening.

That makes a lot of sense. No one was complaining about the animated movie, and I’m sure it still gets revenue since it’s actually good

I think it looks good and I adored the original. Dunno the teaser looks great imo and it's nice to see this dorky animated film I loved as a kid get the big live action Hollywood treatment. I don't see why they can't happily coexist if this new one is as hype as that teaser is.

I think whenever people seeth about remakes it's a) always something they are kinda protective over b) it's capitalism lmao, it's just capitalism.

Like all the criticisms made towards remakes are exactly the same as ones you could make about them turning video games or books or comics into mid ass movies.

I just think it's nostalgia blindness making people hyper focus on ReMaKeS as the problem when the issue isn't really remaking something, especially not when it changes to format (song covers changing genre, video games to movies, an animated dreamworks film getting the big block buster live action treatment) but in fact capitalism just ruining things we like.

The problems capitalism ruining art. That's the problem right?

Imo that's not happening here. This doesn't detract from the original for me and is just a nice extra thing to have and enjoy.

I do get what you mean though cos omg there's been sooooo many awful soulless remakes and cash grabs. Every Disney live action feels kinda cursed to me and if this films goes that route I'll cry.

It doesn’t matter if this is a cash grab (I mean why else would they make it…), the original was great and will still exist.
