    I've been wondering, wouldn't all of South America be socialist/communist at this point, if not for the US?

      Yes and no. Of course the US has had it's hand in every successful coup against socialist governments, but that doesn't mean the US is the reason for success. There are plenty of examples of them failing miserably and showing their ineptitude. In fact there's evidence to suggest that a lot of these classic coups that worked, the CIA just got lucky.

      Remember local countries have their own capitalists or wanna-be-capitalists, as well as their racist fashies. Would LA be better without the US? Almost certainly. But the CIA is not some omniscient being and we, as leftists, need to stop feeding into that narritive.
