honestly it seems like a pretty decent idea to give American POC some self determination, though I'm open to being educated on the matter

i mean im in no place to educate people on it but my first thought was less black independence and more segregation

I guess it could be read like that, but I see a lot of alt-history maps where that region of the US goes communist and the black-belt is given autonomy more as a means of giving black people self-governance than segregation. I'm all for black self-governance, it's an alt-history idea gone far too untapped.

yeah an independent afrikan american republic would better plus the independent native communes too, i guess the point here is that they have a decentralise ssr with a lot of autonomies

ive also heard talk of not tying it to land and instead just giving people access to government structures regardless of location. e.g. there'd be an indigenous congress that works in tandem with the national congress.

im really curious about how itd actually turn out, i feel like the only way to get that sort of idea is to poll black and indigenous leftists on what the idea is and synthesize the overall opinion.

It ain't great, and I wouldn't do it. But it's not too werid for the Soviet state. See: Jewish Oblast.

imagine being one of those guys who think, yeah the jewish oblast was a terrific idea, let's just push millions of people to the edge of the continent, great stuff

it'd only work in areas where mostly black people are in a majority, which is actually pretty small in the US. The only way this could work that sounds feasible is heavily encourage (if not force, ugh) black americans to move there, which has so so soooo many problems.

Maybe it's a special region where districts are drawn both for white and black voters and they kind of vote in seperate but overlapping constituancies, like how New Zealand has the thing where Mauri vote for their own representatives with their own districts?

Idk, that might not even be a good idea. It's safe to say that not much on this map was well thought out, but if it could work I'd really like an african american autonomous region.

I've never heard of that Maori system, I'd have to learn more but that sounds interesting. Also sounds like segregation but if they make it work I'd like to know how, I'll check it out later. Thx

It sure uh... sounds segregationy, so I definately get how it comes off as a bit suspicious, but honestly it sounds like a good way to give different, traditionally at-odds ethnic groups equal representation without cramming them into the same districts and making them compete with each other. So instead of constituancies being split between racist southern whites and PoC trying to turf each other out, there's an understanding that all the white people will get to vote for their candidates, and the black people will vote for theirs, and both groups will get to send delegations without having to directly compete. And maybe that's all that makes the Black Belt ASSR special is that it has that system.

Again idk. I feel like I'm walking on a knife's edge of accidentially saying some yikes shit so I'm gonna leave it at that unless someone has a more informed point of view to express
