I love Hitman but damn the fucking interface.

Look up the Peacock server for Hitman. You run it locally and it just does all the things the remote server would do, including tracking progression for you (this is independent of the progression on your actual account, though, since it's stored locally - IIRC you can copy your existing progress to Peacock, but obviously not the other way around). It's commonly used by speedrunners and anyone else who plays way too much Hitman, because it lets them actually just play whenever instead of when the official servers feel like working and because it's more reliable when running too.

    cough, cough

If your software requires a multi-page buyers manual just to figure out how to not get scammed out of the full game then maybe nobody should buy it? I quickly refunded hitman after this shit happened to me mid-level and ruined my experience.

You know if a pirated copy allows access to the progression system which is usually tied to being always-online?

E: Read the rest of the thread and saw about Peacock, lol, probably works fine which is cool.

piracy is the only way to play most games anymore

even if i buy them i still pirate them to get rid of the online bullshit

It's amazing that in spite of repeated absolutely horrendous decisions of marketing (if you own Hitman 1 + DLC that doesn't carry over to 2/3/World of Assassination) and always-online bullshit that Hitman (2016) is still held in such high regard. Clearly the designers at IO have amazing ideas, it's just too bad their management sucks shit.

hitman offline mode is a heavily neutered version of the original. no freelancer mode, no unlocks and no stats tracking among others. Hitman is really fun when played as a pick-up and play arcade game and that's basically what online mode gives.

You get an inferior game because you couldn't maintain a connection to a server, because this isn't a one time check, if you lose connection even DURING a level, the game will kneecap itself until you reconnect and stop.

Oh really?! Oh well, now I know ahah, seems like I can play the game again but with Peacock like someone else mentioned! Honestly, the very limited offline mode worked out fine for me as I didn't know lol

offline mode is basically just the vanilla Hitman story mode, I also played through most of the game in offline mode before I got peacock working. It's just incredible to me that 1/2 of the single-player game is locked behind a always-online wall.

I guess I'm being weird about XP and progression.
