** Loses presidency and congress, performs noticeably worse in areas dems had previously dominated **

"We were pretty close though, better stick with the same strategy."

Honestly though, I could absolutely see the democrats winning in 2028 purely from the sort of incumbent burnout we get in this country.

I think the only reason they have gotten this far is knowing how much the carrot and stick effect helps them. Trump steps in now with the the ridiculous tariffs, 4 years of that will make people beg for Democrat incompetence again.

I've been thinking about this lately. The average American probably fucking hates America without realizing it because they've been propagandized on American exceptionalism their whole lives. So instead they just think they're deeply unsatisfied with whatever the current leadership is. No, it couldn't possibly be that our great country is a top to bottom failure that can't be reformed, we just need someone to make better choices for us. So it'll just bounce back and forth from either party forever with Americans getting more pissed off every 4 years until, I don't know, nothing probably.

This is a direct result of winning the cold war. All alternatives to the status quo are unthinkable, so constant decline into a neoliberal dystopia is the only possible future. Americans can't imagine a better world, they're allergic to structural change.
