"BRICS, the Global South-led forum for economic cooperation, continues to grow in influence, as its seeks to de-dollarize and transform the international monetary and financial system.
After admitting four new members (Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE) in 2024, BRICS officially welcomes nine new nations as partner countries on January 1, 2025. They are:
- Belarus
- Bolivia
- Cuba
- Indonesia
- Kazakhstan
- Malaysia
- Thailand
- Uganda
- Uzbekistan
With its nine members and nine partners, BRICS now makes up roughly half of the global population and more than 41% of world GDP (PPP).
The group is an economic powerhouse, including top producers of key commodities like oil, gas, grains, meat, and minerals."
My biggest concern with BRICS is if more western aligned countries join, the more diluted it becomes, like the non-aligned movement
Brazil will take control of Brics in 2025, Russia is quite close with Lula da Silva for economical and ideological reasons. I think Lula da Silva will let Venezuela join in 2025, no idea about Nicaragua though (I think Nicaragua broke off relations with Brazil due to the Nicaragua-Vatican Diplomatic Crisis).
Hopefully it will help Cuba dodge the embargo so they can economically recover
Cuba can use the Brics bank to get some economical aid and develop their economy. I really hope they invest a lot of their money in solar energy since the US doesn't let them have a nuclear power plant.
