Gamers are so fucking stupid it's mind blowing. They cry about objectively gorgeous women in games being ugly and ride for the dumbest shit like steam which inflates prices up to 30% lol. Material analysis never fails and people that don't look at things from a material viewpoint and only engage in culture war/identity politics nonsense are absolute clowns.
Why are they mad about Veilguard? Because you can chose your pronouns? Like a big portion of the game is trying to get down and dirty with members of your party that are all hot
Come on it's not like BioWare isn't completely emblematic of corporate bullshit ruining one of the most loved companies in the industry and that they haven't been hated for more than a decade by now
Oh I agree, but I know that the type of criticism that this is mocking is character and gender related. I'm just saying that if your goal is to be a chuddy gooner gamer, you can absolutely do that in veilgiard by just playing a straight wite character.
Also I'm so far kinda surprised at the game. It's still kinda meh, but it's an enjoyable meh. Worth the $40 sale price I think, and doesn't have any micro transactions or saas stuff.
There's an explicitly non-binary companion and people are very accepting of their identity in-world.
Yeah, they're so sensitive that really is how little it takes to get them worked up nowadays. Hell, there's even a few groups whose sole purpose is to make lists of "woke" games which can include not only Baldur's Gate 3 (same sex relationships) and Bioshock Infinite (showing America's openly racist past), but also Call of Duty Black Ops (America is sort of the bad guy). I don't get it and I'm glad the people in my life who I care about don't get it either.
Bioshock Infinite (showing America's openly racist past)
This is so funny because the game twists things toward the end to give the message "anyone who violently defends themselves against racist terrorists is just as bad as the racist terrorists."
Original bioshock is much more straightforwardly antiright with its message of "libertarians are wrong about everything and will destroy society if they're allowed to run it."
I completely agree about the Bioshock 1. A little off topic, Bioshock was probably my first exposure libertarian beliefs/Ayn Rand. I got curious about Atlas Shrugged in my 20s after replaying the game and my goodness that was a massive waste of my time. All I could think when I finished it was 'Did I just read the capitalist version of the Turner Diaries? Is that the reason they like the book so much?'
Infinite forgot to tell a good story and instead just kept the player moving from spectacle to spectacle
I have seen some of them shit on Stardew Valley.
Stardew. Fucking. Valley.
If you turned one of the paddles pink, they'd scream games have been woke since Pong.
Ugh, pretty soon they're gonna say Mr Rogers, Bob Ross, and Reading Rainbow are woke and bad.
Actually, one of the gamers biggest complaints is that none of them are hot. They're complaining about the women, obviously. I've never seen anyone complain about the men. As far as I can tell they're mad that none of them have all three of: Light skin, European facial features, svelte figure. Each of the 3 women have 2.
Edit: I was watching a video of one of the people doing lots of preview stuff for DAV and when he got to the Veiljumper camp in arlathan he saw the Vendor and said, "seeeeeee bioware does know how to make attractive feeeemale characters!"
Meanwhile back at the lighthouse
All the companions are 10/10 supermodels. I think they just like whining or won't be happy until every female character is literally just a giant pair of tits with an ass on the backside.
DAV has the most yassified cast of characters its so funny. The best before and after is solas
Random hermit who is post twink death
Would be a twink if he wasnt a baddie
And yeah they arent looking for beauty they're looking for women who satisfies the white supremacy misogyny goblin in their brains. Because they use their dick primarily as a way to hate and control women rather than enjoy them. If these men's beauty standards encompass more than 1% of women they will change them because they love hating women so much.
Also all the women look like they are mid to late twenties minimum soooooooo hella men dont like it. Because if my exact ideal tastes/porn category arent catered to at all times its a personal attack on me.

It forces you to be supportive of your non binary companion, and there isn't any fan service. Also its colorful and not as gritty or dark as origins because origins was definitely grimdark. Also there is some bad writing in the first few hours that everyone decided to make videos about.
the most important reason why is because its popular to hate on it. veilguard is, to put it kindly, not the best game bioware's made as of late. had veilguard been a BG3 tier success the obvious suspects would have hated on it for a day or two, realized that the game is overwhelmingly popular, and then desperately sought ways to pass the game as anti woke and anti DEI. it happened before and will happen again.
once you acknowledge that fact, well, take our pick. woke, dei, the women aren't anime dolls, there's gays, there's pronouns, there's trans people, and so on and so forth. these are what trigger them, and these are what they attach to the game's actual design and narrative problems. hence the prior dynamic. if veilguard was truly spotless, any discourse attacking it would be niche and therefore not useful to online grifters.
In my case how much I hate on a game correlates to how long it was to beat, that's why for me if an RPG isn't at least a solid 8 then it's the worst videogame ever, ie final fantasy x
A very mid to bad action game like "killer is dead" for example is short so I don't feel too bad after finishing it.

FFX never grabbed me enough to actually play it so I don't have any personal opinions but I've literally never seen it hated on before.
I'm honestly surprised it's generally regarded as one of the good FFs, I don't think I like 1 thing about it aside from a sphere grid you used to get new skills (I think).
I probably need to watch some "this is why ffx is VERY deep" video essays to at least get why people connect with it, after I finished it I really thought it was just because it was a very pretty ps2 game people played when they were young.
I played it right after P4G which didn't help
To be fair, I think the Final Fantasy fan community has bad opinions about which games are good anyways.
Most of the older one have gameplay that's just " select attack repeatedly, limit break when you can, heal with potions in between fights, use big spells on boss monster until you run out of MP" and the exploration mechanics will be "go to the one point of interest on the giant 'open world' map to enter the incredibly linear dungeon and continue the story" and then sometimes there's one single other point of interest on the map in that area where you can find a treasure chest with a weapon that does 3% more damage than the best one available in a shop so far.
And then people had the nerve to complain that the exploration and combat systems in 13, 15 and 16 were linear and mindless when they actually have a higher skill floor than any of the ones people are nostalgic about.
"You just press square until you win" what were you doing in the random encounters in Final Fantasy 7 to save MP for the boss? Pushing the select button repeatedly until the fight was over.
And then people had the nerve to complain that the exploration and combat systems in 13, 15 and 16 were linear and mindless when they actually have a higher skill floor than any of the ones people are nostalgic about.
I think you meant lower skill floor unless I've misunderstood the thrust of your comment (I've never played an FF game apart from Crystal Chronicles so idk)
I don't think so, I meant that the minimum skill needed to play the real time/action games and 13 is higher than in the earlier games, not that they're difficult, mind you, but most older FF games you basically can't fail at, barring being under leveled.
In the more recent, more poorly received ones you either have to make (relatively easy) choices correctly, or dodge attacks and time your own correctly. They're more engaging.
Oh, that is 100% my bad--I thought that skill floor meant the worst that you can possibly be rather than the worst you can be while still being able to beat the game, but Google tells me I'm mistaken. Since skill ceiling is just the best you can be period I assumed skill floor was defined the same way. In retrospect "worst you can possibly be" isn't a particularly interesting or useful metric outside of extremely constrained scenarios
How did you feel about the dialogue? That was the one thing that made me not wanna play really.
I think the writing is inconsistent. It has a lot of cliches and sometimes feels too modern to be fantasy.
Although, most of the cliches are limited to the first ~5 hours of the game. It feels very YA until you get smacked in the face by the first major story decision. The writing and tone matures a bit from that point on.
Basically, the writing is bad in the unimportant times, and good in the important moments.
The overall plot covers too much ground to dive into any concept/theme with too much depth. Plus the villains are one dimensional. It is paced and executed well for what it is though. Kinda like a brandon sanderson novel. The actual character arcs do have depth though, and are well done.
It has the best combat in any DA game by a mile.
The voice acting is very good.
Its visually stunning, except for the terrible darkspawn models.
The romances are good for what they are, but are somewhat lacking content. This is made up for by the cute romances your squadmates get up to.
Its also incredibly well optimised and polished with no microtransactions or essential story dlc.
It also lets you be trans, one of your squadmates is trans (and their personal arc is about coming out), all your squadmates are cannonically pansexual, and the game doesnt have any monarchy is good, genocide the subhumans, keep the magic bloodline pure nonsense that other fantasy does.
If you want something literary like disco elysium you'll be dissapointed. If you want something tactical like pillars deadfire or DAO or 2 youll be dissapointed. If you want something that is primarily a sequel to the previous DA games with no retcons youll be dissapointed.
If you want a character driven story with writing that is great when it needs to be, a plot that never slacks, good voice acting, with fun combat and fun build making/theorycrafting, that is visually excellent, and optimised wonderfully youll like it.
I cried at least once, which I rarely do, and laughed more than most games I can remember.
From the thumbnail I got excited to see a Saints Row (pbuh) reference
