European Union is becoming the last lighthouse of freedom in the world.

All the fascist parties across Europe winning elections say otherwise. eu-cool

Ironic coming from a sub that would force everyone to goose step as part of a morning routine if its users ever held power

"Wenn unsere Gegner sagen: Ja, wir haben Euch doch früher die […] Freiheit der Meinung zugebilligt – –, ja, Ihr uns, das ist doch kein Beweis, daß wir das Euch auch tuen sollen! […] Daß Ihr das uns gegeben habt, – das ist ja ein Beweis dafür, wie dumm Ihr seid!" - Joseph Goebbels, 1935

When our enemies say: But we previously granted you [...] freedom of speech – –, yes, you us, that’t not proof that we should do the same to you! [...] The fact that you gave it to us, – is proof to how stupid you are!

        .

Fascists are fully aware of the hypocritical shit that they say. Because in the end it’s very useful to them when their movement is still in a vulnerable phase. But as soon as they get hold of power, they shamelessly drop their charade and show their real faces. That’s why we should call them out on it every single time, because liberals, in either their naivety or just through a lack of concern, seem to always give them a pass.

The EU should sign trade agreements with South/Central American, African and Asian countries that still haven't been coopted by the US or China

I love how some of them quietly see the danger to their little fortress Europa, without the US and Chinese markets, the European economy does not exist and the hyper-exploited remote "neutral" markets of the global south are not gonna make up the shortfall

especially since to them, "coopted by China" means "does not froth at the mouth of the mention of China".

so who do they actually mean?

they are already panicking because in the past 3 decades the global south has seen an actual partner in china economically and that has already hurt the west's bottom line. the world bank isnt the only game in town anymore if you want to experience some of that sweet money injection from a developed country. except china's conditions for that investment are lot more equitable with less caveats that risk them relinquishing control of the economic development of their country

If Trump sanctions Denmark, EU should sanction USA

Don't see how this is even slightly controversial. The entire point of the EU is to be a trading bloc. There is a lot of brainworms in the thread, but the premise is just table stakes.

America can literally turn off oil and gas supply to the EU today, just for a few months, and their economies as “first world countries” would be over.

It’s hilarious that the Euros still haven’t grasped the predicament they’re in. Europe should start coming to terms with the fact that it is objectively a better option for them to start petition to become the 51st state of the US (hopefully before Canada does and gets the glory) so they’d at least have some political rights and even citizenship, or risk a mass emigration as economic prospects deteriorate and the US ends up absorbing their highly educated labor force. The US can have a little industrialization as a treat with the immigrant labor then.

By the way, this was literally what Europe did to the post-Soviet states in the 1990s. What goes around comes around I guess.

because they also want to keep sanctioning russia and china too, while they have no industry and no resources. how do they want to achieve autarky? cos that's what this sounds like.

Putin only understands military power Trump only understands economic power

Glad to see liberals are still on the "ALL OUR ENEMIES ARE SAVAGES BULLIES AND WE WILL NOT DO DIPLOMACY WITH THEM" train. Mfs don't have even an iota of understanding of geopolitics, or even their own power, which isn't even 1% of what would be needed to go against both Russia and the US and China and Iran at the same time.
