Lavey was absolutely not. Imagine transporting the edgiest nu-atheist from 2004 back in time 30 years, complete with libertarian views. Just an incredibly tiresome person, who lied about EVERYTHING.

You might be thinking of The Satanic Temple and other modern start ups that are basically humanitarian agnostics but do the Satanic aesthetic to be like "You say a nativity scene is fine, okay, then a Bathumet statue has to be fine" or apply to do the rotating opening prayer for school board meetings and do a little devil chant or w/e. The vast majority don't believe in the existence of Satan: supernatural evil being.

They're pretty good, if you're the type of person to look at society and the thing you wanna put the most effort into fixing is Christianity being all up in the state.

I think they do some abortion rights stuff though which is cool.

This is why I've given up engaging with any of the bIdEn Or BuSt 2o2o crowd. If you legitimately believe there will be some change from the DNC's hand-picked ghoul, you are about as hopeless as the MAGA crowd.

There are better ways to reconcile your imperial core guilt with your leftism. One that doesn't involve genociding the descendents of people we kidnapped and enslaved, the descendents of people we killed and stole lands from, the recent immigrants who are being hunted in our country after our actions decimated theirs...on and on.

What a way to top all the violence and exploitation with one last big kill because young white leftist says Amerikkka sux!

The only ones who should be in prison for drug-related crimes are pharma ceos flooding communities with oxy and all that shit.

Sorry to hear that, hope it’s not for too long!

And amazing how we do the same old thing every time, like drug prohibition wasn’t proven to be at best ineffective like roughly a hundred years ago with the prohibition.
We truly learn nothing from history, do we?

Yup, prohibition only works to criminalise everyone and endanger users. I’m of the opinion we ought to be legalising and regulating to be able to provide clean shit, good education, and counselling etc if someone is then struggling.

I think, although I'm obviously not an expert, but AFAIK the Swiss are pretty good when it comes to their drug policies, especially with the heavy stuff like heroin:

In the early 1990s, the Swiss government adopted a new approach that focused on harm reduction, treatment, social support, and heroin-assisted treatment (HAT), in which addicts were prescribed heroin in controlled doses. In 1994, Switzerland opened the first HAT clinics as part of a multiyear trial. People in the program went to a clinic once or twice a day and used their prescription under medical supervision. The heroin in the programs was of a predetermined strength and purity and had no adulterants, and users injected it with clean equipment.

Switzerland has also set up drug consumption rooms where users can inject heroin under safe conditions, and it also uses syringe exchange programs.

Studies found that HAT and the other harm reduction measures have led to a 60% decrease in felony crimes by patients, an 82% decrease in patients selling heroin, and reduced HIV rates and overdose deaths among IV users. source

But can't have that, gotta keep them prisons full.

Anything that is not on the level of heroin, like weed, MDMA, LSD, shrooms should imo be legal, but heavily regulated, also major expansion of prevention and rehab.

I’m kinda conflicted with her case tbh. Prison DEFINITELY bad, but it’s likely the safest place for her rn given the circumstances? She got/did enough to make local news, and get her house & car shot up. I like to think I’m fairly educated on the (safe®) consumption of substances, but I’m pretty naive when it comes to the business side of things and maybe that’s just how that stuff works, but guns feel like a whole other level. She was in too deep.

Oh man, that sounds real bad, although you can definitely argue that with different socioeconomic circumstances(like in a socialist society) she would probably not have felt the necessity to get into such a downward spiral.

Again, sorry to hear all that, I hope everything turns out right and she gets back on course if I can say it like that.

Education is the big one for me. Here in aus everything’s still well illegal, no end user tests their shit, and even if they knew it was dirty they’d likely still imbibe anyway.

I'm in Germany, it's basically the same here, it sucks ass and everybody knows it. Still didn't stop the last government spokesperson on drug policies to say shit like "Weed is prohibited because it's illegal". Yeah, like no shit, huh?
The new one isn't much better either.

                      Weed is my crux

                      Mine as well

                      PGR

                      oof

My family member is in for a decent number of years, I do hope she can get herself clean and away from it all. All that just to make a life of yourself, it sucks pretty bad.

That does suck. Are your prisons as bad as those in the US or more lenient, like Scandinavian ones?

Our population LOVES punching down, so there’s little sympathy for poor conditions, or speaking to them. I believe most are state run, but there are a number of private prisons in existence and more popping up.

Yep, same here on the punching down. Although at least the condition in prisons are mostly not that bad and there are some pretty interesting attempts at other forms of prisons in Scandinavia, which is not bad IMO. Although there are definitely issues with racism too, famous case here is Oury Jalloh, he burned to death while chained to the bed in his cell.
Conveniently this case was never resolved.

Occasionally there’ll be a story that makes news, but again, its framed as “well dont be a criminal then”. Look up “David Dungay”, his family have been leading some of our BLM marches here, and have been doing so for years now. I don’t know the specifics of prison conditions, but I do know we have systemic issues we’re not willing to face, and very poor treatment and outlook for anyone that’s not white or working, let alone black and locked up.

Holy shit, it's crazy how often I'm just left nodding, yep same.
It's a true shame and disgusting that no one cares.

Hell, our concentration camps are privately run.

See, that is where we Europeans are way ahead, we just let them drown in the Mediteranean or be treated like literal slaves in Libya(another western present for the 3rd world) and nobody cares anymore, because its not televised anymore.
