People are completely over it. here in DK we're seeing a rising trend like in Sweden, we just had increased restrictions, no crowds larger than 10 people, masks in all public spaces, shutdown of night life, etc etc. People don't care, my co-workers are going on about how the media's blowing this thing out of proportion, our boss just called everyone in for a night on the town.

We probably had a chance to get the numbers down to zero before summer, and then keep them down by restricting travel and testing / isolating tourists. But that could never work in the west(tm) we are enlightened individuals(tm), we don't need no government telling us what we can't and can do.

Winter is going to be brutal.

As the very real documentary Le Rouge aux Lèvres demonstrates: Belgium is lousy with vampire-hunting retired detectives and maîtres d’hôtel trying to stop the cruel games of immortal aristocrat bloodsuckers.

Turns out the main thing preventing higher life forms from exploring the stars is germs destroying their civilizations over and over.

I dunno about anywhere else, but the most frustrating thing in the UK is how the ruling class keep telling us that the whole problem is that ordinary people aren't following the rules, when they've consistently fucked this up in just about every way imaginable. The government have changed the rules so frequently that most people have no idea what they are, they've proiritised niche parts of society that are personally important to them and their allies (horse racing, hunting, etc.) while leaving major industries to their own devices, and they even spent a couple of months deliberately sowing confusion about the rules to try and cover up the fact that Dominic Cummings had broken them. Meanwhile business owners and just about every right-wing politician outside the government have fought hard against every single restriction and every piece of advice and have convinced themselves that if we just take no action and let the virus grow out of control everything will be fine.

The government's latest masterstroke was to replace the confusing patchwork of regulations across England with a unified three-tier system, which lasted about a week before they decided that the first two places to go into the highest tier (which are right next to each other) needed to have different restrictions. Oh and the lowest tier is called "medium". Oh and they also thought it would be a great idea to give the title of "health minister" to Nadine Dorries, a fundie anti-abortion activist who apparently rejects most of mainstream immunology.
