      I do not get how people lived during Reagan, saw his direct damage to the very fabric of our lives, and think "Gommunism bad, it cause all bad tings to happen". But then, I don't get how people like Joe.

          People in the core have absolutely no mental connection between the political legislation and the material changes in their lives. They literally do not connect the two properly.

          I can only put this down to the fact the people are so heavily alienated by capitalism that they are also alienated from the political acts and their effects themselves. It is a drama on tv with two teams. Their effects are largely meaningless to the vast majority of people. The only thing they pay attention to are the dramatic bits and the elections themselves, none of the in between.

          This is an environment purposefully created by a combination of sucking the energy and time out of people and the entertainment we are provided as a distraction for what little time we have left.
