simply writing in a candidate's name doesn't mean it will be counted. in 32 states, a candidate has to register which could require a petition. If the candidate isn't registered, their vote will not be tallied independently. it will be counted by the computer as a vote for "miscellaneous".

Here you can see that Jill Stein votes are counted because her campaign gathered the 500 signatures. Surely people wrote in Bernie Sanders but they were not counted as Bernie Sanders votes.

So for example, if you don't live in these states and you vote for Gloria, literally no human being but you will ever see it.

    Vote for whoever you want obviously. I'm explaining how write ins work because it's not something that is very known. Don't you think that a person should be informed how it works before they write somebody in?

    This is intended to help people make decisions, not degrade people for making decisions. I think if people knew that their write in possibly literally will not be counted, some of them would rather make a different decision.
