You didn't really think US Covid performance was all about Trump did you? Neoliberalism baby..

Same failed ideology, same focus on individualism. The state is locked in free market ideology, limited state intervention, "we have to open up the economy!". Shit we still have open borders while a pandemic is ravaging the union (NYT just reported that a US diplomats that got diagnosed with covid had just visited the EU and the plutocrats were panicking, like why are you idiots meeting in person?). At this point people have had enough, the different governments failure to respond and control the disease and the extensive lock downs are getting to people. On top of that you have "Leaders" like Macron using COVID to force through shitty neoliberal policies, people see this and it erodes trust in the government.

Just saw Matt's live blog where he was wondering that even though infection numbers were higher than ever, no one cares, asking the question: "are people over it?", "are we normalising this pandemic so we can pretend to go on with our lives?" I think the answer is yes, in the absence of a concerted effort from the state to control the pandemic and results to reassure the people, chaos prevails.

You might remember that people on this forum have warned you that the EU was fucked like the US was (5+ decades of neoliberalism, hollowing out the member countries states, rising inequality etc etc), and you probably dismissed it as being hyperbolic. Well we lasted 3-5 months longer than the US. I don't see this ending before spring, and anti lockdown demonstrations and riots will probably spread all through winter.
