Democrats and "moderate republicans" represent the global finance wing of capital, promoting "free trade" agreements. Republicans represent regional capitalists, like logging an coal, which have generally been hurt by globalization of capital.
So when Trump when after Hunter Biden, it was a genuine attack against his enemies. I think the Democrats swung back so hard on that because they don't see nepotism between government and business as a problem. Trump going after Biden represented an attack on their whole way of life, crossing a line that rich people aren't supposed to. So I think on some levels, it was a genuine move by Democrats that they calculated wouldn't be too offensive to potential voters.
