I thought Mexico has a left wing government now? Can anyone give me a TLDR?

Guys have you considered that in the US protests of 2020, in some of those protests, no one died? That means whatever the police did in them was a-ok! They had to defend themselves! If those a c t i v i s t s just went through the proper channels instead of throwing things at #OurBoysInUniform and threatening them, then they wouldn't need to fight back! It's ok, only injuries, nothing to see here.

Also no one died. OP is claiming a massacre which is completely false.

It's still state oppression to civilians. Bodycount won't change the response that AMLO has mantained through all its presidency so far. Please eros, if all we have achieved through all this struggle to take power is to become a bunch of populist socdems putting all our hopes in the will and wiseness of a few bureaucrats, we are fucked.

AMLO is centerleft-ish in discourse but in actions he's been doing little to nothing particularly in some really-easy-to-score areas like feminist policies.

His coalition party had a great victory and majority, but there are deep cracks inside the coalition and he seems to not want to use the power he has.

Not a big change from what there was earlier.

      He was never anti-capitalist.

Yes, I know, I was talking about AMLO because the user mentioned the central government and you already had tell them about

I get to interact with @czechvault and I always draw parallels with my own "left-wing-for-US-standards" latam government.

No no I meant my government acts kinda the same as AMLO.

                  much greater political autonomy

Eh, I wish. Our oligarchs spend their weekends in Miami, we really don't have much future particularly when they periodically get into power and enslave the whole country into more foreign debt and the money is immediately spent in an inverse Ponzi scheme that they are beneficiaries of.

Good thing AMLO kept us in the new one, maybe if we destroy all of our environment, kick out and repress enough marginalized peoples and finish off the neoliberalization of México, the big companies will be so happy here they'll just have to trickle down their wealth to us! God, I love post-neoliberalism, as useful as post-colonialism.

Eh, in my little experience, the english sources most often that not are the same old shit. "Did you know México is a country and AMLO is its president? He's doing lots of things but they seem scary to us :( now let's listen to Actually Important Global North people to tell us how they feel about it."

I mean, what eros said is mostly true (tho everyone always uses that line to cover their ass. Eros can attest to our conservative state govts also saying during the pandemic "We don't have a budget because of the federal govt! It's all out of our hands :(") but calling the 4T Govt left wing is funny. Out of respect to the seemingly ever-reducing number of actually progressive Morenistas actually trying to steer that mess of a party out of becoming PRI 2.0, I'll go with center-left and suggest reading on the larger Pink Tide movmts and history to understand how they mostly operate and how and what they achieved, so you can manage your expectations better. If you really thought you were going to see a left-wing México without being sieged the fuck out a la cuba-venezuela while the US Empire is still breathing, I'm sorry to dissapoint.

Also just laughing to myself at the thought of having a "left-wing" govt that the US Govt and Trump are happy with. Jesus christ morenistas, I understand wanting to celebrate our victories and work with what we got, but that cope would be insane.
