I leaned on kratom to get through senior year of college. I used it 3-6 times daily and tapered off after college. I will warn you that getting off of it was relatively challenging and emotionally strenuous. It took about two months to get to an emotional baseline and about six months to feel 100%. Its addictive risk is comparable to coffee or vaping but watch out as it is very seductive if you have difficulty getting off of stuff. It's better than drinking for sure but I found it difficult to imagine working a full-time job and using it.

It's nice and definitely a better choice than other legal drugs like alcohol, but quitting can be pretty horrendous. A friend of mine has been having a lot of trouble with alcohol, weed, and kratom where he basically keeps cycling through the 3. He's been successful quitting the other 2, but the second he stops taking kratom he relapses on everything. He describes this immense level of physical discomfort and pain that when combined with trying to adjust to a fully sober mindset is completely unbearable.

It produces a light "high", but you need to not have a tolerance to opioids. If you are tolerant to opioids it won't really measure up as it has a strict ceiling. It will not cause respiratory depression, for instance.
