Also this wording is a little strange, given all their talk of not wanting to be defined from the perspective of London.
The North, which we prefer to call by its historic name ‘Northumbria’
Well that's stupid. The proposed borders are nothing like either the modern or historic usage of that term. They should probably just call it "The Kingdom of the North" to appeal to GOT fans. That way they might actually get a non-negligible amount of support.
Yet mainstream media and Westminster continues to lump us together as a deprived, bigoted backwater.
Yeah, that's ridiculous. The posh parts of Cheshire are an extremely wealthy, bigoted backwater.
The only thing the SNP and Plaid have really achieved so far is splitting the left and helping the Tories, and redirecting activists from worthwhile causes into pointless constitutional shit. I can't imagine this being any different, except it's much less likely to gain any traction in the first place. Though at least they actually seem to be on the left, whereas afaik the SNP and Plaid were historically centrist, and it always seems a bit doubtful whether their recent leftward drift is genuine or just a strategic thing.
