    Funko Pops? Sure, that's dumb.

Try to take away my vintage computers and analog video equipment, though, and I will show you what is meant by "under no pretext."

Collecting things capitalists sell sounds boring, now collecting fun shaped rocks you found on the other hand seems like more fun.

Didn't mean to be contrarian, collecting organically is great. Collectors editions are sad as hell.

like rubies and emeralds and shit

        Same I like shiny too.

For a while I used to collect those quarters for the states but if you grow up poor having money you aren't using is almost impossible. I think a lot of collectors have these things in the hope they can sell them and retire one day like comics. They ultimately go the way of the benie babies.

      Example of good collection: Stamps

With that said, I think a lot of people like airfix model collectors might still disagree with the "useless" part. With that said there is huge entertainment and self-pride in the construction and painting of them.

To my eyes nothing, I googled Revell. We would call that an airfix model in the UK because airfix just became the name for that kind of model stuff here I guess. Like we also use hoover for vacuums.

they yelled because they knew you were right, but it threatened their identity as a consumer of branded character products

Personally I think there's a difference between buying things like Funko Pops that are made for the sole purpose to be bought and put on a shelf and things like old technology, books, guns, and other old functional things.

Collecting is fine but FunkoPops specifically are just the fucking lamest shit

Those are more utilitarian than funko pops, because you can derive enjoyment from painting, customization, and gameplay with miniatures. Hell, even designer/pop art/anime vinyl figures have more qualitative worth because they can be enjoyed as art. Funko Pops are a coat of differently-colored pop culture paint over a basic template of questionable appeal. They're expensive gachapon toys, but you don't even get the gambling- and anticipation-induced dopamine hit of gachapon since you know exactly what you're getting.

I collect records and have been collecting since I was a kid. I've gotten to a point where they take up a lot of space but I'm not complaining.

Funko Pops are the most generic looking figures to collect. All cheaply made out of vinyl, the same lifeless big black eyes and no real uniqueness at all.

I decided that once I had money I'd actually financially support musicians I liked so now I've got all the current stuff I really love; mostly psychedelic electronic stuff, african electronic stuff, some avant garde classical stuff, just anything that makes reality feel less real yknow?

Eh, I don't really care. Some people cope with drugs, some people do it with ten dollar statues of Steven Universe characters, let them do it if they want.

I collect theory, trying to find more first editions but God damn it gets expensive pre 1940 for more famous stuff so I don't have much older works, like why the fuck is a copy of the conquest of bread in Yiddish from 1908 500 bucks on abebooks. I do have a signed copy of Tariq Ali's trotskyist satire novel, and the first English translation of Peter lavrovs letters.
