I am once again reminded that a fascist worked out today and I - in fact - did not. With gyms being closed due to Covid and temperatures dropping to discourage jogging, what is a good way to get fit?

Any recommendations for someone who gets shin splints when they run? I seriously need to run for about ten minutes before you can poke me in the shin to make me fall over.

Slow and steady is way better than going hard (for a whole bunch of other reasons too), and don't increase distance by more than 10% per week as a rule of thumb

Try and run on softer surfaces if possible (grass/dirt are ideal, even bitumen isn't toooo bad, concrete is brutal)

You might want to try getting better/newer shoes if you can afford them, it does make a real difference having shoes that aren't worn out

Running on a different surface sounds interesting, I'll definitely have to see the difference there. Fortunately I've got new shoes, just been too depressed to even break them in. Thanks for the advice!

tbh, I'd start with long walks on very flat ground until you can jog intermittently on the walks without getting shin splints

also, what's your stretching routine like? also, I was negligently fucking up my knees running with bad form for a few years. is it possible you're doing something like this with your shins?

Tbh, I don't really stretch. Most of the knowledge I have in regards to working out came from high school, so at this point in terms of working out properly I'm pretty for off the mark. I'd appreciate any advice you'd have to give!

Try these (but do not overdo them! if you overstretch you can really hurt yourself, so if it starts to hurt, stop stretching) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2G5WCJBpps

Anywhere you can swim? I know pools are closed, but I know lots of swimmers who are doing their swimming in the sea now.

God I fucking wish. I'm in a part of America where the bodies of water are either illegal to enter, or the water is so dirty you wouldn't want to get in anyways.
