I've visited the r/ultraleft sub and they are all really angry about it. Is this some kind of meme?

If I had to guess it's because they see the term leftist as another meaningless term like progressive, which I kinda agree with. I think refusing to be labeled a leftist is dumb but I definitely hate when people say "leftism"

People always say "Read theory, just read theory", then the leftcoms pull up pretending like they understood Hegel & everyone's like "Fuck off nerd"

I wondered the same thing as you but then I've been thinking that I can't really judge what leftcoms say as a whole based off the comments of a few redditors. So who knows.

I thought maybe it had something to do with their theory or whatever...

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_communism

They see themselves as further left than other socialists

I don't think self identifying left communists (which even a term does not make much sense to identify as today) if they are at all coherent would even use the ultraleft subreddit, they would not like the label.

I mean, it's mostly a meme sub. I don't know anything about the tendency outside of a couple of Wikipedia articles, but I just can't get enough of those Bordiga photos.

It's not so much a tendency as a collection of political positions and tendencies, some of which oppose each other, all under a broad label because they started as offering criticisms of the comitern from the left.
