Opening to Cuba and trying to get the embargo lifted was like the one good thing Obama did

If they do, I wonder if the reality of the US being a plague colony of millions will complicate that. If I led a country, I sure as hell wouldn't want US tourists going in and out rn.

They could just require proof of immunity for visitors. Their healthcare system is good enough that they’ll probably have their population very well vaccinated with one of the Chinese vaccines by the end of next year.

Why would you allow infiltraitors from a country which has already engaged in chemical and biological warfare against your country and neighbours into your country during a global pandemic?

The pandemic will be over before the Biden presidency turns one year old. If they lift the travel restrictions the pandemic will only be a factor for a few months.

Obama didn't try to get the embargo lifted, he just exempted the export of charcoal from Cuba to USA and eased travel restrictions, that's about it.

He did the typical democrat thing of saying “I want the embargo lifted, really I do, honest, but the Florida delegation just won’t let us do it”.

Biden is to the left of Obama on foreign policy and to the right of Obama on economic policy generally speaking but there are exceptions in both of these arenas.

If the people running the empire were actually smart they'd try to improve America's relationship with Cuba to keep them away from China. They'll be doing naval exercises with Vietnam before too long so it's not like they're too proud.

*Cuba should of course not let itself become an American pawn but they'd benefit immensely from the embargo being lifted at least.

It's in place almost purely because of the old right wing cubans in Florida. That's the only part of the country that cares in any way which would swing an election.

The general Cuban-American attitude toward the embargo, especially among people who immigrated from the 80s onward and their children, are not as hard line as it's made out to be. Most Cuban immigrants after the 60s are better described as economic migrants than political exiles, but the public-facing leadership of the community that has the politician's ears is dominated by gusanos. Biden could lean on Cuban-Americans, especially in the business community (🤢), who desire more open relations with the island.

Everyone saying no but I know someone who's related to someone who is married to someone that's going to be on the transition team and their entire job is going to be going back to Obama era softening on cuba.

Probably not. Trump shot it to shit as soon as he came into office and Biden has already proven he is to the right of Obama on many things. He will bring back support of the embargo and follow the same policy as Trump.

My guess is the recent results in Miami will mean that they maintain the status quo set by Trump re Cuba as I'm sure there's some political consultant who blames that on dems losing Florida.

But Biden is nominally to the left of Obama as it relates to foreign policy, especially as it relates to the middle east, so who knows what will happen.

That’s the Clinton Crime Family influence on Obama’s State Department and National Security Council. Biden was on the side of Obama’s people but Hillary’s people won most of the time.
