There are so many things I hate about capitalism but one of the absolute worst is that things are manufactured so that they're intentionally impossible to repair so you have to buy a new one. There's something up with my printer, which I've never even used once, and after taking it apart as best I could I can't fix it because there's absolutely no service manual anywhere on the internet, no parts list or diagram so I can't even figure out what the piece I suspect is the problem is called. I hate that I even have to have a printer but I can't go to the library or my office to print things cause of covid. Fuck me, I can't believe ive spent close to 10 hours in total trying to fix and troubleshoot it.

It feels like not too long ago people thought that planned obsolescence was just a crank paranoia and now its just something you assume with so many modern devices.

This can be applied to most criticisms we have — ‘that’s crazy and isn’t happening’ goes straight to ‘that’s just how things are, nothing we can do about it’

There's a name for this phenomenon, isn't there? "Boiling the frog", I think?

Is it an inkjet? Inkjet printers are absolute garbage and are intentionally made as cheaply as possible so you buy a new one every couple years. It’s messed up.

Yeah, inkjet. It was sort of foisted on me in the first place, never would've willingly subjected myself to the misery that is an inkjet printer that was bought on clearance 6 years ago but I feel so shitty throwing something that should be repairable out.
