Ya, China literally dosen't care about that, there are like four or five other cities that make more money than Hong Kong and having Hong Kong as your landing zone in China is only marginally useful for businesses now. Like its quickly becoming just other large city in China, except it continues to maintain its colonial political strucutre which is annoying for Beijing.
The only guarantee of maintaining an autonomous Hong Kong that Britian had at hand-over was their assumption that China would basically stay the same as it was in the 1980s and Hong Kong would be its only outlet to the world. I mean not like they had much of a choice since China would have just invaded and ended everything in one day in 1982
