Russia went from a nearly feudal state which worshipped the king and believed in his divine right to rule, and in less than ten years the Russian people were cheering for his execution and the execution of his entire family.
40 years after that, they were the first to ever put a man made satellite into space. They developed industry, improved quality of life, and built a nuclear program from the ground up in the same period of time despite having their lands invaded and ravaged in two wars and losing 15% of their population.
The world is scary, but it changes quickly. Rest easy but don’t give up our cause. What feels far off today may be just over the horizon.
40 years after that, they were the first to ever a man made satellite into space. They developed industry improved quality of life, and built a nuclear program from the ground up in the same period of time despite having their lands invaded and ravaged in two wars and losing 15% of their population.
And 30 years later, the whole Socialist project in the USSR had been destroyed and the Russian people saw the greatest decline in living standards outside of war in modern history.
This is not doomerism, this is a reminder that rapid change cuts both ways and we need to be vigilant to guard the advances we have made, lest the capitalists destroy them.
Yes which is why we should be aiming to build beyond just a state
Yeah, and don't forget, the Russian people used to burn the Bolsheviks books in front of them. Ten years later those same people were marching with the Bolsheviks.
Might make a whitepill thread later
Shit the rapid rise of the Bolsheviks during 1917 is proof enough too. The entire Russian Revolution is a lesson of organized but rapid change.
There are decades where we fuck around; and weeks where we find out.
The US will become a full blown fascist authoritarian state long before a leftist revolution ever happens here.
We don't have a working class movement. We would have to start over entirely from scratch after decades of neoliberalism destroying our labor and workers rights. That's the task on our hands and what we should be talking about instead of fantasizing about a communist revolution. Baby steps. We still have a lot of work to do.
Life comes at you fast. It's entirely possible, as an example, that we could go from neoliberalism to fascism to balkinization to a federation of socialist republics within 20 years. We have no idea what's in store, all we know is that the old order is rapidly collapsing and no one in power has had a single new idea in over 40 years. Shits going to get weird.
i want to believe.
i just need to see some kind of victory over a place that neo-liberalism has taken a stronghold in. it's not like i'll lose hope if i don't, communism will eventually win, but i want to see something cool in my lifetime. i already got to see a massive national protest over police brutality, and am pretty sure that that's just the beginning, but i need MOAR!
Sometimes it's easier to let go of hope for revolution in America/Imperial Core and look towards "thirdworld" countries and how ripe so many are for socialism. It helps me to stay positive. Like fuck America, but god wasn't the Bolivian news so uplifting.
Most people were ruled by monarchies entering into the 20th century. Can you name more than one true monarchy now?
