That said, given how different crustacean anatomy is to that of mammals, there must be some scientific reason that its common to cook crustaceans alive but not any sort of larger animal.
Probably more as proof that it is not rancid. Shellfish and crustaceans have an absurdly short shelf life after death compared with other meats it it isn't immediately frozen or cooked.I have never heard of it improving flavor and am extremely confident it does not have any effect.
