I'm starting to think Americans never actually gave a fuck about people dying in 9/11, and they only got worked up over it because it was an attack on "American greatness" or something. They were angry at the symbolism, not the death.

I used to think us Americans were selfish assholes because our military would slaughter millions overseas and we couldn't care less. But now I'm seeing how little fellow Americans care about a 9/11 every day among fellow Americans. So we're still monstrous, selfish assholes... but at least we're a bit more consistent about it.

Also everyone saw it, it was broadcasted on TV.

covid deaths are just numbers so they're not real, basically

also, you know, the government wanted the people to feel enraged and emotional about 9/11, while they don't want people to care about covid deaths

Correct! 9/11 was a big deal because we "let" a bunch of "savages" come to our house (New York City, a place 99% of Americans despise) and attack us. The human toll means nothing.

I don't think a lot of Leftists quite understand how little value human life has to the average person, objectively, not based on what they say to sound "acceptable"

People were mad because 9/11 is the sort of thing that happens in places that you can't pronounce and have never heard of, not the Capital of the Universe.

Covid is similar. Plagues happen in weird dirty countries, not here. Why should good, decent Americans not be allowed to go shopping and grab a bite at that fun sit down place next to the mall, with the good sandwiches? Mass death can't happen here, people just need to shape up (/s)!

Yeah it's like Americans operate under this notion of a just world fallacy maybe more than anyone else (largely because we are so much better off materially than much of the world so we get to feel like we're the good people), and we don't like it when that get shattered. Everyone gets what they deserve so bad things can't happen to us because we are the good people.
