Détournement is the nerd-word for this. I love détournement efforts, reclaiming labor and culture away from money and markets. FOSS software like Lemmy, and stuff like vaporwave, which (often) takes commercial jingles and other hyper-commercial music and makes it non-capitalist. Reclaiming humanity from the machine.

the weird ass out of nowhere horse transformation shit, and I'm not sure it would have been possible to make the horse people creepier. I get it's a metaphor, but it's just kinda weird, creepy, and dumb.
I guess it doesn't help that I watched it at like 2 AM when I should have been going to sleep.
I understand art can't be universal and it's obviously fine that you didn't care for it, but... I thought it was a clever way to jarringly make the non-radicalized viewer realize how dehumanizing the efforts of company productivity/behavior training is, traces a through-line from centuries-old racist tropes about black laborers, and also is shock value that provides cover for the anti-capitalist message.
Boots even said himself in an interview that it was a parallel for scientific racism. Proto-capitalism literally inventing a species out of thin air for the extraction of surplus value.

I loved this movie and it’s really good, but that’s actually one of its few flaws: it is not very subtle. I guess that’s what makes it so accessible though.
What's wrong with lack of subtlety? Some movies are not meant to be subtle. Everything about the style of this movie is "slap you in the face" which is why it works so well. The whole "dropping your office desk in a random persons house as cold calling" metaphor is a perfect pithy for this movie. You cannot escape capitalism in a modern city environment, it follows you everywhere. That is what the movie showed perfectly through visuals and tone.
Yeah it has its advantages. I guess I’m just used to leftist messages being dog whistled and grew to like them conveyed that way. And I agree that doing things with subtlety is not the best way to communicate a political message. Loved the directing and the style, the plot just seemed a bit clumsy to me sometimes.
